Qatar riders set for the battle against international stars

DOHA, November 16, 2017 - With a contingent of 32 riders and 44 horses, hosts Qatar will test their skills against the challenge of competitors from more than ten nations in the World Cup qualifying QNB Al Rayyan CSI4* International Showjumping Championship which gets under way at the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) arena on Thursday.

Leading the home show will be the recent Longines Global Champions Tour Doha Grand Prix champion Bassem Hassan Mohammed (on Gunder and The Toymaker) and Olympian Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al Thani (on Armstrong Van De Kapel and his favourite First Devision).

Also in action will be the many upcoming and promising national riders who have been excelling in the on-going 12-leg Hathab series. Sheikha Fatima Jabor YJ al Thani will be one of the women riders from Qatar along with Haya Mohammed al Marri and Tamader Said al Marri.

From Australia, Edwina Tops-Alexander will be seen in action on her two horses -- Inca Boy van T Vianahof and Mezzaluna Tok. For Great Britain, Alexandra Thornton with her two horses Charielle and HHS Figero will head into the four-star contest.

Five riders and nine horses will be participating under the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) flag. Uzbekistan with five athletes and five horses are one of the participating nations whose riders will also be looking to qualify for the FEI World Cup.

On Wednesday, the mandatory veterinary check of the horses was conducted and most of the riders seemed eager and excited ahead of the main competition which kicks off at 1.30pm on Thursday.
