DOHA, November 17, 2017 - Englishman Mike Russell defeated compatriot Robert Hall 1500-1284 to win the IBSF world billiards long-format title at Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha on Wednesday.
Russell started with a bang in the final, with breaks of 344 and 169 giving him a definite edge over his rival right at the start. But Hall came back strongly as breaks of 198, 80, 105 and 131 helped him take a 140- point lead over Russell at the end of the first session.
In second session Russell started up with another break of 260 points and followed it up with 197 and 107 to cement his lead while Hall replied with 123 and 153 to stay in the race.
But a final break of 149 helped Russell had the final say and clinch his sixth world title in the format. Pankaj Advani (India), who had won the 150 up format earlier, and Nay Thway Oo (Myanmar) shared joint bronze.
IBSF President Mubarak Al Khayarin awarded the winner at a ceremony which was also graced by the presence of QBSF chief Mohammed Mubarak Al Ramzani, IBSF Executive and OBSF President Barrie Jones, and other officials including Sultan Al Suwaidi, Yacoub Fakhroo, Abdul Rehman Kuwari, Maryam Al-Malki, (Competition Manager), and Master of Ceremony Shoaib Alam Khan.
