RABAT, Morocco, April 10, 2018 - Former Olympic bronze medallist Nasser bin Saleh al Attiyah led Qatar to the Men's Team Skeet gold medal at the Arab Shotgun Shooting Championship in Rabat, Morocco on Monday.
Besides the title, Qatar also bagged silver medal in the Men's Individual and Women's Team Skeet events as well.
Attiyah, who has been thrice Asia champion and 2001 Lonato World Cup silver medallist, Rashid Saleh and Saeed Abusharib represented the men's team which faced a strong competition from Kuwait and the UAE shooters.
Former Asia champion Rashid Saleh came second in the individual event, losing the final to a Kuwaiti shooter. The UAE won the bronze medal.
Qatar's third medal came in the Women's Skeet Team through Sarah Mohammed, Hajar Mohammed and Reem al Sharshani.
With these three medals, Qatar's tally has gone up to five. Attiyah said that the competition was strong and exciting till the final round."We want to thank God that we managed to finish the men's team event on the top. The gold medal was our sole objective and we are happy to achieve it.
"We all worked hard at the Losail ranges and got a big support from the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, which played a big role in our victory today," Attiyah added. QSAA Secretary-General Majid al Naimi, also the head of the mission at the championship, commented:"We're delighted to have earned our first gold medal of the championship through the men's skeet.
Also it was a good day for us as we bagged two more silver medals. The level of the championship is very high and our shooters performed well till now to bag these medals.
"The weather has been inconsistent and affected our show a bit. The double trap is still left. We hope to continue our good efforts and add more medals to our tally," he added.
