Doha, June 02, 2018- Qatar coach Camilo Soto yesterday announced a 13-man Al Anabi squad to participate in the AVC Volleyball Cup to be held in Chinese Taipei in August.
Argentinean Soto, who became Qatar's coach in December last year, picked the players from various clubs on basis of their performances in various international assignments and the recently-concluded domestic season.
The list includes Mubarak Dahi, Bilal Abunbout, Sulaiman Saeed and Milos of Al Rayyan – the Amir Cup champions. The list also includes Sultan Hussein, Othman Abdul Wahed (Qatar Club), Ghanem Al Rumaihi, Ahmed Bassam, Rennan, Ibrahim Said (Al Arabi), Ali Al Kanani (Al Ahli), Khalid Shamia (Al Gharafa) and Nadir Abubaker (Police).
Ali Ishaq has been appointed as Assistant Coach while Said Aman has been named as the Managing Director. Said Salem Al Jamaani will serve as General Supervisor.
The squad will undergo a strenuous training camp in Doha during which the national team will also play a couple of friendly matches as part for preparations the Asian challenge. The AVC volleyball Cup, which will be held from August 8 to 15, will feature 10 teams divided into three groups. Qatar have been bracketed in group C also including Australia, Vietnam and Thailand.
The group B comprises Iran, China and Chinese Taipei while group A includes Japan, Kazakhstan and South Korea.
Qatar will start their AVC Volleyball Cup campaign against Vietnam on August 8 and will play their second match on the following day against Thailand. Qatar's last group match against Australia is scheduled on August 10.
All the teams except for Chinese Taipei qualified for the event after the 2017 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in Gresik, Indonesia. Chinese Taipei are taking part in the event by virtue of being the hosts.
The Al Anabi's training camp will start later this month and will continue till almost two months. During the camp the team will play friendly matches against India and Azerbaijan.
