Doha, June 20, 2018 - Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation (QSRF) will hold an external preparation camp for Waleed Al Sharshani and Abdulrahman Al Nasr as part of their preparations for the 18th Asian Games, which will be hosted by Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September in Jakarta and Palembang. The event is expected to see the participation of about 10,000 athletes from 45 countries.
In a statement, the QSRF said that it had formally approved the organization of a six-week external camp for the team in Poland, pointing out that Al Sharshani and Al Nasr will participate during the camp in two world championships in Poland and Denmark.
He added that this camp would provide the players with ideal conditions in preparation for the Asian challenge, especially in light of the QSRF's planning to win medals in the Asian Games, as well as compete for the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo 2020.
The team is accompanied by coach Khalid Bettihthamou. Al Sharshani will take part in the laser standard category and Abdulrahman Al Nasr in the 4.7 category during the camp, which will begin on June 25 in the Polish city of Gdynia and continue until July 30.
During the camp period, Abdulrahman Al Nasr will participate in the 4.7 Youth World Championships, scheduled to be held in the Polish city of Gdynia from July 9-17.
The QSRF delegation is due to return to Doha to stay for about four days before traveling to Indonesia to take part in the Asian Games, which will kick off on August 18.
QSRF head Abdullah Yousuf Al Sulaiti expressed his hope that Waleed Al Sharshani and Abdulrahman Al Nasr would achieve good results in the upcoming Asian Games, praising their commitment to training and their desire to achieve medals for their country in the various upcoming competitions.
In a press statement, Al Sulaiti expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Olympic Committee, headed by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, for the substantial material and moral support it provides to the federation in order to achieve its objectives in various sports categories. This is an incentive for all contestants to make achievements in the various competitions they participate in, he added.
