Beirut, June 21, 2018- The Qatari team will play against Lebanon on Thursday at the opening of the three-day international tripartite basketball tournament in Beirut in preparation for the last two matches in the Asian qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in China.
The match is expected to be strong and exciting between the two teams, the Qatari team occupies the 60th place in the world ranking and 11 in Asian ranking, and compete in the fourth Asian, where it occupies the third place with 5 points behind Iran with 7 points and Kazakhstan second with the same balance, while Iraq occupies fourth place and with 5 points.
The Lebanese team is ranked 54th globally and 9 in Asian ranking, and compete in the third Asian group, having 7 points behind Jordan with 8 points, and Syria third with 5 points and India fourth with 4 points.
Qatar will play their second match on Friday against Armenia, ranked 88th in the world ranking and 40 in Europe, while the Lebanese team will meet with his Armenian counterpart in the last round of the tournament on Saturday.
This tournament is a good opportunity to prepare the team for the matches of Iran on June 29 and Iraq on July 2 in World Cup qualifiers, where Qatar is equal to the Iraqi team in the number of points with 5 points each in the group, and each competing for the third place in the group, after Iran and Kazakhstan qualified for the second round of the decisive World Cup qualifiers.
