Doha, June 29, 2018 - Qatar's basketball team will face their Iranian counterparts at Al Gharafa Hall in the fifth and final round of the 2019 World Cup qualifiers in China.
Qatar is ranked 60th in the world and 11 in Asian ranking, and are third in fourth Group with 5 points behind Iran with 7 points and Kazakhstan with the same balance, while Iraq is fourth and last with 5 points.
The Qatari team will also play against their Iraqi counterpart on July 2 in the sixth and final round of the first round of the qualifiers, and the two teams are competing for the third qualifying place, after the two teams Iran and Kazakhstan qualified for the second round which is crucial for World Cup qualifiers.
The top three teams from each group climb to the second round, which includes 12 teams, divided into two groups, each with six teams.
Three teams from each group will qualify in the second round, straight to the 2019 World Cup in China as well as the best in fourth place. Asia secured seven seats in the World Cup in the next qualifying round through qualifications, especially as China has qualified as the host country of the global competition.
The Qatari team recently participated in the International Tripartite Basketball Tournament in Lebanon as part of preparations for the last two games in the Asian qualifying for the World Cup 2019 China.
