Qatar flag hoisted in Sports Village of Asian Games in Jakarta

Jakarta, August 17 - The sports village of the 2018 Asian Games witnessed the hoisting ceremony of the flag of the State of Qatar on Thursday.

The games will officially begin on Sunday.

The National anthem of the State of Qatar was played, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony in the presence of HE Qatar's Ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed bin Jassim Al Hamar and HE First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani, HE Second Vice President of the Olympic Committee Thani Al Kuwari, HE Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee Jassim Rashid Al Buainain, with the participation of members of the administrative delegation.

HE Qatar Ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed bin Jassim Al Hamar expressed his happiness with the participation of Qatar in this Asian sports event with a large delegation and in 30 sports for group and individual games.

HE added that we are confident that our champions will be able to achieve good results to honor Qatar sports.

HE stressed that the presence of senior officials from Qatar Olympic Committee reflects Qatar's great interest in the tournament and gives Qatar champions great moral motivation, adding that he wishes all Qatar heroes and champions success in the tournament.

HE Ahmed bin Jassem Al-Hamr praised the Indonesian preparations for hosting the 18th Asian Games, noting that Indonesian officials are exerting great efforts for the guests comfort and success of the event.

For his part, HE First Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani expressed his great pleasure in seeing the Qatari flag hoisted in the sports village in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on the sidelines of preparations for the Asian Games.

HE added in his remarks to the media delegation after the end of the flag hoisting ceremony that as promised and vowed that the Qatari flag will remain flying today in Jakarta, marking the presence of the Qatari sports mission in the Asian games, we hope that we will succeed in all the games and competitions, but everyone knows that victory and loss are possible and we hope that everyone will be ready in order to achieve good results in all games and to march towards winning medals, which is worthy of the reputation of Qatari sport because Qatar deserves the best from its athletes.

HE Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee Jassim Rashid Al Buainain expressed his delight at seeing Qatar flag flying in the sky of the village of the Asian Games in Jakarta.

HE added that the Qatari participation in these games is part of our keenness to involve our players in one of the most important events around the world which will definitely contribute to the expertise required for their development and performance for the upcoming sporting events and we all - athletes, coaches and officials - seek to represent Qatar in the best way and look forward to achieving positive results through the young and ambitious elements and wish them success in this great Asian sport event.

Eighteen athletes from 45 countries representing the continent will participate in 40 Asian Games and 462 events. The tournament will be attended by 11,000 athletes and 5,000 officials.

The event will feature a large Qatari participation with a delegation of 478 participants, including administrators, technicians, an official delegation, journalists and 222 athletes, to participate in 30 events, 24 of them in Jakarta and 6 in Palembang.
