Doha set to host Commercial Bank Qatar Masters

DOHA, February 25, 2019-The Qatar Golf Association has intensified its preparations for hosting the 22nd edition of Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which will take place from March 6 to March 10.

The first edition of the tournament took place in 1998, and since then have attracted some of the best golf players in the world over the years. It is also considered one of the important stages of the European tour in the Middle-East, which more than 400 million people around the world watch.

President of the Association Hassan Nasser Al Nuaimi said yesterday that the events is one of the most important on the Qatari sports calendar, as it contributed to grow the popularity of the sport in the country.

Al Nuaimi noted that the association, in cooperation with Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), was upping its preparations for hosting this year's edition in Doha Golf Club. He added that the association was excited to host the players and the fans in the club in March. (QNA)The Qatari basketball team suffered a 48-96 defeats at the hands of their Japanese counterparts in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers in Doha on Sunday.

The Japanese led for most of the game, leaning on the strong inside play of Nick Fazekas and their torrid perimeter shooting. Coach Julio Lamas's squad connected 14 times from beyond the arc, with point guards Naoto Tsuji and Yuki Togashi combining for 7 of those made triples. Japan led by 10 at the half and blew the game open soon after, outscoring Qatar, 54-23, in the second half.

Fazekas led Japan with 20 points and 19 rebounds, while Makoto Hiejima and Tsuji each scored a dozen points. Yudai Baba also did well with 11 points, 4 boards and 3 steals. Qatar were paced by Nasser Al-Rayes and Moustafa Fouda, who had 11 points apiece. Japan earned their eighth win of the Asian Qualifiers and finished as Group F's second place team.
