FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup gets underway

DOHA, March 21, 2019- The 12th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup began at Aspire Academy on Wednesday.

The four-day event – which is a qualification event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics –features a total of 128 men and 60 women artistic gymnasts from 57 countries.

The state of Qatar is represented by three players including Ahmed Al Dayani, Ahmed Mousa and Raslan Saoud but they failed to qualify to the finals.

Lee Chih-Kai of the Chinese Taipei led the standings of pommel horse event on the first day while Carlos Yulo of Philippines sparkled in Floor exercises event.

Having organised the 48th FIG World Gymnastics Championships at the Aspire Dome last October (the first of its kind to be staged by an Arab nation and in the region), the QGF has already received kudos for its excellent organisation and hosting with the event being termed as the 'best-ever' edition of the Worlds.
