National heroes celebrate gold medal wins with local school children

Doha, April 23, 2019-Qatar's sprinting sensation Abderrahman Samba lit up the Khalifa International Stadium with his impressive Men's 400m Hurdles gold winning performance, with fellow countryman Abubaker Haydar Abdalla adding a second gold medal in the Men's 800m for Team Qatar on Day Two of the Asian Athletics Championships.

The celebrations of the Men's 400m Hurdles and Men's 800m Gold medal triumphs will continue throughout Qatar, with both athletes handing a ticket for every metre they won - 1,200 tickets. Local schools, in honour of their respective victories, will be gifted with the tickets to experience the final two days of the Asian Athletics Championships.

Samba is hoping that his latest gold medal can help inspire the next generation of athletes across the country, commenting: “It is important for the children of Qatar to come and learn all about athletes and see this amazing stadium and competition. I hope that the tickets give the children a great experience and they can learn more and enjoy athletics."

With athletes from 42 different nations across Asia, communities are being encouraged to rally around their fellow countrymen and women, giving them a warm Doha welcome, whilst offering support to inspire winning performances.

Already within the Championships, stars from China and Philippines have set new records in track and field events, with communities encouraged to get behind their athletes as the final medals are decided Tuesday 22nd & Wednesday 23rd April at the new-look Khalifa International Stadium.

Fans of all ages are welcome to attend where they can experience highly anticipated events such as the 100m, 4x400m relays and the sheer show of strength in hammer throws. The event acts as the official test event for the highly anticipated IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019. Organisers are encouraging people of Qatar to trial the experience too at Khalifa International Stadium ahead of 27th September when the world of athletic will descend upon Doha 10 days of action.

As the excitement builds within the stadium, fans can share their experiences and join in the conversation online by using #AsianAthletics on social media channels.
