Marwan wins the battle of the ElShorbagy brothers to face indefatigable Coll in semis

Doha, November 14s, 2019-The quarter-final battle of the ElShorbagy brothers ended in favour of the younger Marwan who defeated the World No.2 Mohamed 3-2 (11-6, 2-11, 11-6, 3-11, 11-8) in one of the most exciting matches of the PSA Men's World Championship at the Khalifa Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha on Wednesday.

With the victory, the World No. 10 Marwan has now reduced the head-to-head deficit between him and his older brother to 4-14 and he is set to face New Zealand's Paul Coll, who defeated Egypt's Zahed Salem 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6) earlier in the day, for a chance in Friday's final.

"It is not easy playing against my brother. While it was exciting for the fans, it was somehow emotional for us. My brother is one of the best the sport has ever witnessed and today's victory is special to me. It's unfortunate that in sport, one person wins and another loses. That's how it is and the winner happens to be me today. Our relationship continues and I hope to win the Championship to make him proud as well," Marwan said.

Despite coming through a brutal 119-minute epic against 2015 runner-up Omar Mosaad in their pre-quarters clash on Tuesday, Coll claimed victory over Salem in just 47 minutes to emerge the first New Zealander to reach the semis of the World Championship since the legendary Ross Norman in 1988.

The 27-year-old defied any inkling of fatigue as he fired in several winners, especially in games two and three, to secure his spot in the last four.

I'm very happy to be in the semi-finals of a World Champs, it was something that was a minimum goal going into the tournament," Coll said. "I've got to put that behind me now, even though I'm very happy to be in the semi-finals, I don't want to stop there. I've just got to regroup after this, enjoy the moment while it lasts and watch the match later."

On the other hand, The World No.6 Simon Rösner defeated England's James Willstrop in straigth games (14-12, 11-6, 11-3) to reach the semi-final of the PSA Men's World Championship for a second successive season.

The 32-year-old German, a finalist at last year's Qatar Classic, will now confront second-seed Tarek Momen of Egypt, who triumphed 3-0 (11-6, 13-11, 11-6) against Peruvian Diego Elias, the World No.7, for a spot in another final in Doha.​
