Doha: Qatar’s Tijan Ahmed and Abdullah Nasim began their campaign in the West Asia Beach Volleyball Zonal Tour with a straight sets win over their Saudi Arabian opponents at the Aspire courts on Saturday
Ahmed and Nasim prevailed 21-12, 21-13 against Ali Mahfouz and Hassan Alabdulbaqi in their Group A encounter.
Earlier, Mahfouz and Alabdulbaqi overpowered their Syrian opponents Ibrahim and Yasser 21-17, 22-24, 15-10 in a hard-fought contest.
Qatar play Syria in their final group encounter on Sunday.
In the four-team Group B, a keen tussle is underway with Oman and Palestine sharing the joint top spot with two wins each. Oman notched 2-0 wins over Iraq and Jordan. Palestine meanwhile dropped a set against Jordan before winning 2-1, and later blanked Iraq 2-0.
