Qatar handball team to face Iran on Tuesday

Doha, October 08, 2019- Qatar's handball team will take on Iran in a friendly match on Tuesday at Duhail Arena. The match comes as a part of their preparations for the Asian men's handball qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will be held in Doha on Oct. 17-26.

The two teams will play a second match later on Thursday.

Qatar's handball squad currently includes 18 players: Ahmed Maddi, Rafael Capote, Jovan Gacevic, Alaeddin Balrachid, Abdulrahman Tariq, Hamdi Ayyad, Amir Denguir, Amin Zakar, Daniel Saric, Anis Al Zawawi, Wagdi Sinan, Ahmed Magdy, Mustapha Heiba, Nidal Issa, Yassine Sami, Mohamed Obaidi, Marwan Sassi and Mario Tomic.

The draw for the men's Asian qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games put the Qatari team in Group A along with the teams of Saudi Arabia, India, and Hong Kong, while the Group B included Bahrain, South Korea, Iran, and Kuwait.

It will be the second time in a row that Qatar has hosted the men's Asian handball qualifiers for the Olympic Games. In 2015, Qatar hosted the 2016 Rio Olympics qualifiers, where the Qatar handball team qualified for the Olympics for the first time in the history of Qatari handball.
