Konya, Turkey - Qatar Fencing team fought tooth and nail to defeat Iranian counterparts 45-34 and clinched third podium spot on Tuesday at the prestigious fifth Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkish’s city of Konya.
In Archery event, team Qatar archers suffered defeat in the last 16 stage, while in the women’s 3x3 basketball event, team Qatar were defeated 21-2 at the hands of Azerbaijan.
In a post - 200m and 400m breaststroke statement , Qatar’s promising swimmer Abdulaziz Al Obaidly said he is truly happy with his performance and hopefully to rise scale of challenge in the upcoming regional and continental events.
This fifth edition of Islamic Solidarity Games is running from 9th to 18th of August with participation of approximately 6000 athletes from 58 countries.
The state of Qatar is participating in 14 sport disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, handball, cycling, athletics, swimming, shooting, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, weightlifting, wrestling, fencing and gymnastics.
