Dablan and Khalaf shine in Qatar Shooting Cup

DOHA, May 6, 2018 - Mohammed Dablan edged Angelo Scalzone in a thrilling battle to grab the Menf0's Trap crown in the Qatar Cup Shooting and Archery Championship at the Losail Ranges on Saturday.

Dablan and Scalzone shot superbly in the finals and beat the rest of the qualifiers by a long margin before battling it out for the gold medal. Out of 50 targets, Dablan finished with 41 and got the better of Scalzone, who had topped the qualification round with 123, by a target in the end.

Mohamed al Rumaihi secured the bronze medal with 30 targets, beating Hamad Ali Saleh al Adba by two shots. Nasser Ali al Humaidi, who had needed a shootoff with Dablan after the two were tied at 120 each, was fifth and Rashid Hamad al Adba rounded out the top six with 18 in 25 targets.

The Women's Trap title was Khulud al Khalaf. In the finals, she posted 36 to win against Banna Haji by two targets. The two shooters were tied at 111 each after the qualification series and Khalaf won the shootoff 1-0 to go to the top.

Noora al Muhannadi, who had 106 in the qualifying rounds, bagged the bronze medal with 27 targets, while Amna al Abdullah was fourth, hitting 22.

The Junior Men's Trap also saw a close contest, in which Ibrahim al Tamimi won with a 72-70 margin against Salem Hamad al Adba. The bronze medal went to Husain al Bannai, who shot 67.

Ahmad al Shammari emerged the champion in the Men's 25-metre Rapid Fire Pistol. He defeated Mohammed al Tamimi for the gold medal. Misfer al Marri clinched the third place.

The fifth final was held in the Women's 50m Rifle Three Positions. Noora al Mohannadi finished on the top. Hiya al Balushi won the silver medal, while Khalud al Saeed bagged the bronze medal.

On the first day, Abdulbasit al Saadi defeated Hamad Ali al Marri to win the Men's Double Trap gold medal. Both were tied at 70-70 for the gold medal after the regulation finals. In the shootoff, Saadi edged Marri 4-2 to emerge the champion.

Masoud Ali al Adba landed the bronze medal with 49, while Rashid Ali al Medad was fourth after managing 38.

Organising committee chairman Jaber al Hajri, Tournament Director Abdullah al Hammadi and Anoud al Naimi presented the medals.
