DOHA, October 12, 2017 - The first competition of the twelve-leg Hathab Equestrian Tour series will get under way at Al Shaqab on Friday.
The event which has a total prize-money of QR1 mn is open to Qataris and all residents is being conducted jointly by Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) and Al Shaqab equestrian centre.
The first competition at Al Shaqab (Oct 12-14) has attracted over 150 riders of all ages and has free admission for spectators. Hathab, meaning"Canter" in Arabic, is an initiative of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee.
The riding disciplines are show jumping and dressage with five categories: 1. Future Riders Programme 6-12 years old; 2. Children 12-14 years old; 3. Junior (Small Tour) 14 18 years old; 4. Young Rider (Medium Tour) 16 21 years old; and 5. Senior (Big Tour) for 21 plus years of age.
The Small Tour will have Table A, One round against the clock (Ht: 100cm/115), and (Ht: 115/125) for Open Class with top prize being QR10,000 and QR15,000 respectively.
The Future Riders class will have the Optimum Time rounds of height 70/85 and 85/100. The Medium Tour will have the Table A, Special two phases of jumping (120/130) while the Big Tour will have Table A, One round against the clock (130/140) carrying a prize of QR20,000 and QR30,000 respectively.
On Friday, The Vet check for horses will start at 4pm followed by a technical meeting for the riders at 6pm. On Friday, the action will begin at 2pm, and on Saturday at 9 in the morning and at 2 in the afternoon.
The results of the competition will form the basis for selection process of riders to represent Qatar in future international competitions.
