Doha, February 26, 2018- Englishman Eddie Pepperell survived a strong challenge from his countryman Oliver Fisher to win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club on Sunday.
There was nothing to choose the two when they started the final day and even though Pepperell threatened to break free, Fisher kept pace to be in line for a final assault. However, Pepperrell made sure he held his nerve and carded a two-under par 70 to bag his first European Tour title.
Pepperell finished with a total of 18 under while Fisher, who carded a 71, was 17 under.
Swede Marcus Kinhult carded an impressive 68 but it only fetched him a third place at 16 under.
“I am as pleased as I can be. I was super-confident today. I said to my friend it's an inevitability. I don't wish that to sound arrogant, I want it to sound confident," said Pepperell.
“This will give me confidence. When you win, you know you can win. I've always felt and believed I will win out here but it hadn't happened before today. You've always got to take that step and that's uneasy but at some point in everyone's career, they've got to do something for the first time. Hopefully, this is not my last," said the 27-year-old.
Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Pablo Larrazabal, Frenchman Gregory Havret and Italian Renato Paratore followed the top three with a 15 under.
South African George Coetzee, who carded 66 on the final day, finished with 14 under alongside Germany's Sebastian Heisele while Spain's Adrian Otaegui, who led after the second day finished with 13 under for a share of 10th place.
