DOHA, July 20, 2018 - Qatar handball team beat Iranian counterparts 28/16 in the first test match held on Thursday at Al Duhail Sports Hall as part of preparations for the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
The two teams will meet in a second and final match on Friday. Qatar will also play two matches with Portugal's Lisbon in early August before departing for Indonesia for the Asian Games.
The draw for the handball competitions at the 18th Asian Games put the Qatari team in Group A alongside the teams of Iran and Malaysia, the second group included South Korea, Japan and Pakistan, the third group included Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong, and fourth group Bahrain, Taipei, India and Iraq.
Qatar are keen to maintain their gold medal won in the last edition of the Asian Games held in the Korean city of Ansan in 2014 after winning the final match against Korea (24/21).
