London, August 01, 2018- HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani was present Tuesday during the first day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival at Goodwood Racecourse, UK.
The event will conclude on August 4 oat the renowned Goodwood Racecourse and is sponsored by Qatar for the fourth straight year. Watan won the fifth race in the card impressively. The chestnut colt schooled by Richard Hannon was steered by Ryan Moore to win the six-furlong race reserved for two-year-old maidens. The trophy presentation ceremony was held after the race. Executive Director of Al Shaqab Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Attiyah received the first place trophy.
The Executive Director of Al Shaqab, was very pleased with the Watans win of the fifth race on the first day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, particularly as it was a race for maidens and Watan is one of the horses bred by Al Shaqab Racing.
"Watans win today at Qatar Goodwood Festival is very special", said Al Attiyah, "especially as he was bred by Al Shaqa as a son of Toronado, who himself won the Sussex several years ago. We consider this win very significant to us at this stage."
"Arguably we have started to reap the rewards of our attention to breeding in Al Shaqab and the performance and form of Watan today are a demonstration of this. He excelled and won the race impressively. We will run Watan in tougher races in the near future as he is up to that. We will maintain Al Shaqabs policy of paying due attention to breeding because we want Al Shaqabs breeding to be prominent in this type of racing. We have been working to this end and we have the opportunity to realise better results and to enhance breeding in Al Shaqab", he added. (QNA)
