Qatar Participates in Arab Boxing Championship in Sudan

KHARTOUM, SUDAN, March 20 (QNA) - The Qatari national boxing team has started its participation on Tuesday in the Arab Boxing Championships held in Khartoum, which will continue until Saturday.

Qatari boxer Thulasi Tharumalingam was able to secure an easy victory in the preliminary stages when he defeated his opponent from Libya in the first round of the 69 kg.

The Qatari boxing team coach Juan Carlos Gonzalez praised the performance of Tharumalingam and his readiness for the tournament, while expecting his teammate Mohammed Al Banai to secure a win himself in the tournament if they both concentrate on the competition and the performance expected of them.

The national coach expects Al Banai will start his career on Wednesday against a 75 kg Syrian boxer, while Tharumalingam plays against a 69 kg Moroccan.

For the second time in a row, the seven teams of Qatar, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Palestine and Syria will participate in the Arab Boxing Championships organized by Sudan.

The Arab Boxing Federation, headed by its President Yousuf Ali Al Kazim, has adopted the organization of the Sudan Arab Boxing Championship in its second edition for the second time after hosting its first edition in 2018 which was won bu the Algerian national team.

In his speech at the opening of the tournament, Al Kazim stressed that the Arab sports meetings are not only aimed at achieving victories, but also aimed in bringing Arab youth together and that their competitions is in an atmosphere of love and affection.

Al Kazim also announced that the first Arab boxing tournament for girls will be organized during this year, while praising the efforts exerted by the Sudanese Boxing Association with the support of the Sudanese Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
