Since 1979, the Qatar Olympic Committee has been leading the Olympic Movement in Qatar. It is one of 205 National Olympic Committees currently recognised by the International Olympic Committee . At the heart of major sports events, QOC committed to driving change and leading sustainable sport development in Qatar, striving for sport  with purpose. QOC acknowledges its responsibility to demonstrate leadership in event sustainability management by conducting its event-related activities in alignment with the ISO 20121:2012 standard, as certified by Bureau Veritas.

To uphold this commitment, QOC focuses on:

  • Fulfilling all standard and IOC requirements, and ensuring compliance with applicable national and international laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Providing a framework for setting sustainability objectives that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the IOC Agenda, and are grounded in the principles of inclusivity, integrity, stewardship, transparency, and legacy, as outlined in our Statement of Purpose and Values.

  • Optimizing all phases of the event management cycle, from conception and planning to implementation, review, and post-event activities.

  • Reducing environmental impact, promoting economic growth, and contributing to the development of sustainable communities.

  • Implementing impactful actions across key areas including communication, procurement, health and safety, energy, water, air, waste, community, mobility, transport, food, housekeeping, and venues.

  • Embedding sustainability throughout our supply chain management to ensure responsible sourcing and practices.

  • Engaging in continuous dialogue with stakeholders and all interested parties to raise awareness, gather input, and secure support and feedback.

  • Strengthening stakeholder engagement and collaboration, which are central to executing our strategies within the sustainability framework.

  • Enhancing performance through audits, measurement, and progress monitoring against our sustainability objectives and principles.

  • Continuously improving our Event Sustainability Management System, event after event and year after year.

  • Allocating the necessary resources to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of our sustainability management practices.

Our Statement

It is the policy of the QOC Procurement Department to identify, manage, and mitigate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of QOC’s supply chain. We fulfill our sustainability sourcing commitments by:

  • Complying with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Setting clear objectives and action plans to support this policy and pursuing continual improvement in line with ISO 20400.

  • Prioritizing suppliers who have adopted sustainable and ethical practices within their organizations and throughout their supply chains.


Preferred Supplier Practices

Through our supplier selection, evaluation, and engagement processes, QOC gives preference to suppliers who actively:

 

Reduce Environmental Impact by:

  • Conserving energy, water, and raw materials.

  • Minimizing waste generation and packaging.

  • Reducing carbon footprint from deliveries and operations.

  • Maximizing local sourcing.

     

Deliver Community Benefits by:

  • Complying with ILO principles regarding human rights and employment conditions.

  • Ensuring that slavery and human trafficking are not present in their business or supply chains.

  • Implementing social responsibility practices that benefit society.

     

Drive Economic Growth by:

  • Supporting job creation and enabling opportunities for SMEs and social enterprises.

  • Considering life-cycle cost in the evaluation of products and services.

This policy will be reviewed annually and shared with all QOC employees. It will also be made publicly available on the QOC website and upon request.

In pursuit of sustainable sport development, QOC further commits to:

  • Applying a planning and coordination approach that meets stakeholder satisfaction and complies with all legal IMS requirements to improve facility utilization, sports performance, and community engagement.

  • Enhancing client satisfaction across QOC operations.

  • Implementing effective planning to prevent injury and ill-health for individuals working under QOC’s control.

  • Minimizing pollution and reducing the use of natural resources and waste wherever appropriate.

  • Ensuring continual improvement by setting ambitious, realistic goals and regularly reviewing performance indicators.

  • Promoting ongoing professional and personal development of employees and empowering them to lead in their areas.

  • Ensuring that all individuals under QOC's control are aware of the IMS policy, its requirements, and their responsibilities.

  • Committing to the elimination of hazards and reduction of occupational health and safety (OH&S) risks.
