Qatar to take on Turkmenistan in friendly

DOHA, August 23, 2017-Qatar's national team will meet Turkmenistan on Wednesday in a new friendly, as the team prepares for the final two rounds of the World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Syria and China.

Turkmenistan's team arrived in Doha on Tuesday and held their training session at Qatar SC stadium. Meanwhile, Qatar's coaching team decided that the match be played behind closed doors. Media will not be allowed to access the stadium during the friendly match.

Qatar will play against Syria in Malaysia on August 31. Next, they will face China at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.

The team will miss out on the services of their star defender Ibrahim Majid, who is serving a one-match suspension.

He will feature in the match against China however.

The team will also be waiting on a late fitness test of midfielder Ahmed Moein, who might be ruled out during an injury he suffered in an U-23 match for the national team.

Qatar's national team returned from England following an extensive training camp in Birmingham, during which they played three friendly matches.

The first one saw them beat Leeds United 2-0. They then lost a match to Nottingham Forrest 1-2. The final match was against Andorra, which Qatar won 1-0.
