Qatar Weightlifting Cup Championship gets underway
DOHA, December 20, 2018 – The 5th edition competition of Qatar's International Weightlifting Cup Championship 2018 organized by the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation (QWF) kicked off in Intercontinental hotel Doha on Thursday.
The prestigious championship's opening ceremony was attended by International Weightlifting Federation President, Dr. Tomas Ajan and Mr. Mohammed Yousef Al Mane, President of Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation.
In the opening day competitions, weightlifters competed in weights 61kg and 67kg for men and weights 49kg and 55kg for women.
Chinese weightlifter, Zanj Ronj starred to open campaign with a deserving victory to claim the gold medal in Women's 49kg event.
Qatar's promising weightlifter, Fares Ibraheem is due to compete in the Men's 96kg event on Friday.
The prestigious championship is bringing together 56 weightlifters (men) and 61 weightlifters (women) who represent 33 countries. The event is a qualifying tournament to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
