Qatar’s Barshim and Samba aim high in Oslo

DOHA, June 7, 2018-Qatar's high jump superstar Mutaz Essa Barshim and 400m hurdles upstart Abderrahman Samba have created an early buzz in the 2018 IAAF Diamond League Series and the two will be under the global glare once again when the fifth leg takes place in Oslo on Thursday.

Barshim has made it two out of two, after posting a world lead jump of 2.40m at the home round in Doha on May 4. Samba is also drawing rave reviews from the world media as the 22-year-old runner clinched both the races so far with new Diamond League records.

Entering the season with a world lead and personal best of 47.90 in Potchefstroom in South Africa on April 19, the one-lap dasher created sensation in Doha on May 4 with a DL mark and crushed the field, raising his time to 47.57.

Then he came to the Rome leg last month and did the same. His effort were more significant this time as world champion Karsten Warholm from Norway was also present. Samba overtook him in the closing metres and produced another DL record, along with a new Asian record, a meet record and a personal best.
