Qatar's Beach Handball Team Meets China's Taipei in the Asian Championship

WEIHAI, China, June 19, 2019 - Qatar's beach handball team will meet Chinese Taipei on Wednesday in their fourth match of the 7th Asian Beach Handball Championship held in Weihai, China, which will run until June 24 and serves as a way to qualify for the 2020 IHF Mens Beach Handball Championships in Italy.

Qatar is looking to continue their victories and win their fourth consecutive match after winning their first game against the Philippines 2-0, Indonesia 2-0 in the second game, and Afghanistan 2-0 in their third game.

Five other matches will also be held on Wednesday with Indonesia vs. Philippines and Afghanistan vs. Vietnam in Group A, while Japan vs. Saudi Arabia, Thailand vs. Oman and Pakistan vs. Iran in Group B.

Twelve teams were distributed into two groups for qualifying for the 2020 IHF Mens Beach Handball Championships in Italy, with Qatar, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Afghanistan, Indonesia and the Philippines will participate in the first group, and Oman, Iran, Thailand, Pakistan, Japan and Saudi Arabia participate in the second.

Qatar were crowned champions of the Asian Championship in Pattaya in 2017, after defeating Oman in the final 2-0.

Qatar's Beach Handball Team aspires to win the title for a fifth time, after winning it in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, and to ensure their participation in the 2020 IHF Mens Beach Handball Championships in Italy for the fifth time.

In previous years, Qatar placed tenth in 2010 in Turkey, 7th in 2012 in Amman, 3rd in 2014 in Brazil, 3rd in 2016 in Hungary, and ninth in 2018 in Russia.
