Doha, October 9, 2017-The Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation (QSRF) yesterday felicitated Abdulrahman al-Nasr and Fares al-Bakri after they won gold in the Laser 4.7 and Laser RDK events at the 10th Kuwait International Regatta.

The sailors were honoured at the federation's headquarters in the presence of QSRF Chief Abdullah al-Sulaiti and other board officials. Al-Sulaiti expressed his happiness with the results of the federation's sailors in Kuwait and credited Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani for his overwhelming support to the federation. He said that the achievement was possible thanks to the efforts of the officials, coaches and players of the federation, praising al-Nasr and al-Bakri for their hard work.

“The success of the Qatari sailors proves that the federation is on the right track. QSRF's aim is to develop the sailing and rowing sport in Qatar and create a platform for new generations to win titles for the country," al-Sulaiti said. He was confident that al-Nasr and al-Bakri will develop their skills in the future and win more medals nationally and internationally. “The federation has many players who require support and encouragement in order to develop their skills and be able to achieve more titles for the country in the future," QSRF president noted,

Al-Nasr was satisfied with his achievement in the Laser 4.7 category. “The competition was a chance to develop my skills and continue to prepare for the Asian Sailing Championship to be held in Indonesia in 2018. I hope to continue to do well for my country," he said,

The 15-year-old sailor said he became interested in the sport as it was different and there aren't many Qatari sailors, hoping that his win will attract new players.

On the other hand, Fares al-Bakri said: “Sailing is a unique sport. It develops your personality as you have to take tough decisions in a pressure situations. Winning gold in the Laser RDK will work as a motivation to achieve more be it nationally or internationally."
