Rich haul for Qatar at GCC Women's Games

KUWAIT, October 27, 2019 - Qatar won the gold medal in the handball competition of the 6th GCC Women's Games in Kuwait City after defeating UAE 24-21 in the final on Saturday .

Earlier, Qatari taekwondo player Amina Abdulkarim won the gold medal in the 53kg class while Maryam Ali Ben Ali won the silver medal in the 73kg weight category.

Qatari women's table tennis team have also booked a podium finish and they are one step away from the gold medal. Al Annabi on Saturday defeated Saudi Arabia 3-0 in the team event and will face Bahrain in today's final.

On other hand, Qatar's basketball team defeated hosts Kuwait 92-55 to claim the gold medal.

In a press release on Saturday, the Qatar Olympic Committee's First Vice President HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, appreciated the Qatar teams' outstanding performance and results in the Games, lauded the significant support of Qatar wise leadership to the sport movement in the country.

His Excellency also praised the keenness of the Qatar Olympic Committee's President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani to promoting the sport activities among both men and women in the country.
