Salman Mohammed opens Qatar Show Jumping Championship campaign with victory

​DOHA, November 17, 2017 - Riding on his home turf Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) Salman Mohammed Al Emadi delighted all with a decisive win in the feature class on the opening day of the QNB Qatar International CSI4* Showjumping Championship on Thursday.

Salman and his consistent 6-year-old chestnut gelding Zorro Z were once again a perfect match combined in the Table A, Special Two Phases FEI Art. 274.5.6 (145cm) event.

The growing-in-stature rider and his smooth galloping horse jumped clear in 35.34secs to collect the first prize of €6,765. Salman, who took to the sport following his father's love for equestrian, pipped Derin Demirsoy by 1.53secs.

Speaking of his win, Salman said,"It was a great win. I'm very happy with my horse's performance on the first day and we are looking forward to the next two days of competition.

"My horse jumped really great and that is what I was expecting from Zorro Z. I hope he can continue the same way. When I entered the championships, I was ready. Now we are looking forward to the next competition in this championship."

Turkey's Demirsoy, riding Dadjak Ter Puttenen, needed 36.87secs and the effort fetched him €4,920.

He too was happy with the show."It was a great start for me and my horse. It was a good day. You know never know in this sport, but today everything went according to plan."

Australia's Edwina Tops-Alexander, an accomplished and Olympic rider, went into the ring on eight-year-old bay Veronese Teamjoy and was equally impressive but finished in the third place in 38.32secs and won €3,690.

Earlier in the Table A, Against the Clock 130/135cm class, Qatar's Salmeen Sultan al Suwaidi rode Guilder's Empire of the Sun to victory in 58.75secs.

Salmeen was 5.51secs faster than compatriot Awad al Qahtani, who on Cassander Van Het Bremhof finished second in 64.26secs.

Salmeen had also finished fourth in the feature 145cm class riding Cantaro 32.

In the day's first event, Two Phases 120cm, Qatar's Saeed Nasser al Qadi stood out on Jessico 4 winning in 24.17secs with all clear rounds in a field of 39 riders.

The other two podium finishes also went to Qatar riders Mohammad al Ghazali (on (Jackson 58) and Ghanim Nasser al Qadi (on Fudine) respectively.
