Sheikh Joaan Honored with Prestigious Awards at ANOC Awards 2019
DOHA, October 18, 2019 – H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), was presented with the prestigious Award for Contribution to the Olympic Movement by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) during the ANOC Awards 2019.
In addition to this honor, Sheikh Joaan was also awarded the ANOC Merit Award earlier the same day. The sixth edition of the annual ANOC Awards was held at Katara Cultural Village in Doha, as part of the XXIV ANOC General Assembly.
Sheikh Joaan was selected for the award by an ANOC jury composed of the presidents of the continental associations, representatives from the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), and members of the ANOC Athletes' Commission.
Expressing his gratitude, Sheikh Joaan said, “I would like to thank my colleagues in the Qatar Olympic Committee and the local organizing committees for all the competitions we have helped deliver. Thank you to IOC President Thomas Bach and Acting ANOC President Robin Mitchell—this award belongs to all of you as well.”
