QOC hosts Entertainment Day for people with special needs

DOHA, November 3, 2017-The Qatar Olympic Committee's (QOC) sports affairs department organised the 11th Entertainment Day for people with special needs at Abdullah bin Suhaim Indoor Hall in co-operation with the Qatar Paralympic Committee.

The event saw the participation of 150 students representing a number of paralympic centres, viz: Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs' female education and rehabilitation centre, Noor Institute for the Blind, Doha International Center for Special Needs, and Al Tamakon School for Comprehensive Education.

Entertainment Day aims to raise the level of awareness for people with disabilities by giving them an opportunity to express their skills and capacities by participating in several sporting events.

The focus is more on entertainment than serious competitions. The celebration helps in breaking the barrier between people with disabilities and their healthy counterparts.

The festival featured several activities dedicated to people with mental, vision and motor disabilities, including barrier races, athletics and leisure events.

A number of QOC and Qatar Paralympic Committee officials attended the event as well as coaches, organisers and student companions. Qatari Paralympic athletics medallist Abdurrahman Abdulqader, who won gold in London and Rio de Janeiro Olympics, participated in the event along with Sara Masoud, silver medallist in London and Rio Olympics.

Abdulqader said he took part in the event to offer support and give hope to the students to continue to exercise, challenge their disability, win competitions and represent the Qatari sport well in global competitions, adding that his disability didn't hinder him from achieving his goals.
