Fifth Islamic Solidarity Games to kick off on Tuesday

KONYA , Turkey – The opening ceremony of the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games will be held in Turkey’s city of Konya on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s opening ceremony will be attended by high-ranking political and sport officials from several Arabian, Islamic and Foreign countries.

This fifth edition of Islamic Solidarity Games will run from 9th to 18th of  August and  will see  approximately 6000 athletes from 56 countries of five continents to compete for 483 medals in 27 sports.

On the other hand, Qatar men's handball team began their campaign at Islamic Solidarity Games with a 22-20 victory over Morocco.

In athletics competitions, Qatar's Tosin Ogunode qualified to the final of Men's 100m with a time of 09:98 seconds while Bassem Hemeida also qualified to the final of Men's 400m hurdles event after leading the heats with a time of 49:70 seconds.

Qatar men's volleyball team will begin their campaign at Islamic Games with a match against Iran on Tuesday while Abdulqader Asfour will participate in Men's 58 kg Taekwondo event on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Qatari national women's team of 3x3 basketball, fencing, basketball, fencing and judo arrived in Turkey on Monday to participate in this edition of Islamic Solidarity Games.
