Ibrahim, Hamida and Dawood win gold

Doha- Qatar’s Moaz Ibrahim yesterday took the host country’s medal tally to nine by throwing the discus to a distance of 61.30 metres on day three of the West Asia Athletics Championships at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium.

Qatar have won 19 medals in the event, with nine gold, five silver and four bronze.

Ibrahim’s gold was the third of the day for Qatar, following exceptional performances by pole vaulter Saif Hamida who cleared the bar at 5.20 metres to emerge on top of a strong field in the final before one-lap hurdler Ismail Dawood won his final ahead of compatriot Bassem al-Hamidah who came second.

Earlier, Qatar’s Sajja Issa Sadoun won her second medal in the home event when she secured the silver medal in the in the women’s 400m hurdles.

Sadoun, who on Thursday won the gold in the women’s 400 metres, yesterday stopped the clock at 1:07.09 behind Iraq’s Kurdistan Be Mo Jamal who won the gold medal in 1:04.87. UAE’s Mahrah Taqliya won the bronze with a time of 1:07.51.
