DOHA - Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim finished runner-up at the Lausanne Diamond League (DL) yesterday.
The Olympic champion also sealed his spot for the Diamond League Finals, which will be held in Zurich on September 7.
At the Stade de la Pontaise yesterday, Barshim was tied with Andriy Protsenko on 2.24 meters, but the Ukrainian walked away with gold on a countback. USA’s JuVaughn Harrison, who also cleared 2.24m, took bronze. Protsenko had first time clearances at 2.15, 2.20 and 2.24 ahead of Barshim, who had a similar sheet barring second clearance at 2.20m.
"I am in a good shape and good mental space, there are a few important meets ahead," Barshim said yesterday.
"I will be defending my third consecutive DL title at the finals in Zurich, so there is a lot at stake for me. Of course I want to finish my season as good as I can," he added.
