Sheikh Joaan Crowns Duhail Champions of Qatar Football Cup
DOHA, April 07 (QNA) - His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, crowned Al Duhail as champions of the Qatar Football Cup after defeating Al Sadd with 2-0 in the final match, which was held Thursday at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.
Al Duhail equalized Al Sadd's titles record by winning the third title in their history in the tournament that started in the 1994-1995 season.
Al Duhail's goals were scored by Kenyan Michael Olunga in the 47th minute and Tunisian Ferjani Sassi in the 53rd minute.
A number of Al Duhail players spoke after winning the Qatar Cup 2023 following their 2-0 victory over Al Sadd at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium of Al Sadd.
Everyone expressed their happiness for winning the prestigious championship after outstanding efforts and a great match against Al Sadd.
Captain Almoez Ali said: "Praise be to God for the victory and achievement, to which we are used to. This is the second championship victory for the team during the season, after Ooredoo Cup, and we will continue to work with full force in various tournaments to win more titles.
"We always strive to provide a performance befiting the reputation of Al Duhail and this achievement is a gift to our fans, who are the great supporters of the team." Striker Michael Olunga congratulated the management and players on the achievement.
"The Qatar Cup 2023 coronation came at the right time and after the team won the Ooredoo Cup. This would give us more motivation in the remaining tournaments of the season," he said.
"I extend my congratulations to the management and players of Al Duhail and the fans on the occasion of this deserving achievement and after great efforts in the final against a strong team that has players at the highest level," he added.
Midfielder Ferjani Sassi said "We've to keep working to win more championships." He went on saying "I am very happy to win this championship and be crowned with Al Duhail. We must continue to work to complete the season with full force and win more championships." "Our fans were wonderful and their big presence was a motivation for the team, and we hope to always make them happy in various tournaments," he added.
