Team Qatar athletes shine at Islamic Solidarity Games

Konya-Team Qatar athletes had another good day at the Fifth Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, winning a silver and a bronze medal on Thursday.

Moaaz Ibrahim claimed the silver medal of men's discus throw with a personal best of 61.38 meters.

Qatar clinched another medal on Thursday when Rashid Al Athba took third place at men's trap competitions. Kuwait's Abdulrahman Al Fayhan and Talal Al Rashidi won the gold and silver medals.

Thursday's medals brought Qatar's tally of medals to 6 including 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.

In volleyball competition, Qatar men's team defeated hosts Turkey 3-1 on Thursday in their second match at group B.

Moreover, Qatar's Moaab Adam and Abdulrahman Saeed qualified to the final of men's 1500m event to be held on Friday.

On the other hand, Qatar's 3x3 basketball and swimming national teams arrived in Konya, Turkey on Thursday to participate in the games.

This fifth edition of Islamic Solidarity Games is held from 9th to 18th of August with participation of approximately 6000 athletes from 58 countries.

The state of Qatar is participating in 14 sport disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, handball, cycling, athletics, swimming, shooting, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, weightlifting, wrestling, fencing and gymnastics.
