Top-three seeds book round of 16 tickets as tournaments hots up

Doha- All the top-three seeds booked their tickets into the Round of 16 yesterday as the tournament gathered momentum at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.

World No. 1 and top-seeds Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón enjoyed a comfortable straight sets victory over Daniel Windahl and Joe Solano, winning 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour while Franco Stupaczuk and Martín di Nenno, second seeds, also began their campaign with a straight sets (6-2, 6-3) defeat of Teodoro Zapata and Tonet Sans.

Tournament’s third-seeds Paquito Navarro and Juan Tello, on the other hand, staged a comeback 6(5)-7, 6-0,6-3 win against Iván Ramírez and Pablo Cardona to advance into the Round of 16.

Galán and Lebrón will be up against 13th seeds Miguel Yanguas and Alejandro Arroyo who knocked out Miguel Semmier and Pablo Lijó 7-6(5), 6-4 in the Round of 16 while Navarro and Tello will next face ninth-seeds Maxi Sánchez and Lucas Campagnolo, who defeated Edu Alonso and Juanlu Esbri 7-5, 6-2 in the other match of the day.

For Stupaczuk and di Nenno, their Round of 16 match will be against Enrique Goenaga and Jairo Bautista, who defeated qualifiers Martin S. Pineiro and Pablo Garcia 7-6(5), 6-0 in one of the other matches.

In the other matches, Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, seeded fifth, defeated qualifiers Inigo Jofre and Luis H. Quesada in straight sets, while seventh seeds Momo González and Alex Ruiz knocked out Raúl Marcos and Jose Sánchez 6-0, 6-1.
