Ooredoo Qatar Major Premier Padel begins

Doha: The main rounds of the Ooredoo Qatar Major Premier Padel began on a great note with the Round of 64 on the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex yesterday.

In all, a total of 24 matches were played, featuring some of the world's best players, who strutted their stuff to the delight of the fans of one of the world's fastest growing sports.

Qualifier Martn Sánchez Pineiro and Pablo Garcia Rodrigo of Spain produced one of the tournament's major upsets, defeating 16th-seeded Argentina's Juan Cruz Belluati and Miguel Lamperti in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(3) in 90 minutes on Grandstand 3.

Meanwhile, Argentina's Ramiro Moyano and Spain's Francisco Manuel Gil Morales, the 12th seeds, began their campaign on a winning note by defeating Spain's Francisco Ramirez Navaz and Ricardo Martinez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

In the other matches, Spain's Luis Hernández and Igo Jofre easily defeated Italy's Aris Patiniotos and Ignacio Sager of Spain.They won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to set up a Round of 32 clash with fifth-seeded Agustín Tapia of Argentina and Spain's Arturo Coello.

Qatar’s Ali Al Saygh and Rayyan Al Jufairi were beaten in straight sets by 44th-seeded Francisco Guerrero and Jesus Moya Sos of Spain. The same fate befell Jabor Al Mutawa and Mohammed Al Khanji, who were eliminated by Spaniards Eduardo Alonso and Juanlu Esbri.
