World Judo Championships - Doha 2023 Concludes

DOHA , May 14 (QNA) - Amid great distinction and success, the World Judo Championships - Doha 2023, which was held over eight days at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, concluded on Sunday with a large participation of 657 male and female players representing 99 countries from around the world.

HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the World Judo Championships - Doha 2023, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the International Judo Federation (IJF) Marius Vizer, HE Second-Vice President of Qatar Olympic Committee Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, HE Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee Jassim Rashid Al Buainain, President of the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo and Karate Federation Khalid bin Hamad Al Attiyah, along with a number of IJF officials, continental federations and guests of the tournament attended the final day competitions.

At the end of the competition, HE Sheikh Joaan crowned the Japanese team with the first-place trophy in the team event, while the IJF President handed the gold medals to the Japanese team members. IJF General Secretary Lisa Allan crowned the French team members with the silver medals, while the President of the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo and Karate Federation crowned the Georgian team members with the bronze medals.

HE Chairman of Media and Broadcasting Committee for the Judo World Championships - Doha 2023 Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani handed the bronze medals to the Netherlands team members, while the International Judo Federation Ambassador Ion Tiriac handed the second place trophy to the French team and the third place trophy to the teams of Georgia and the Netherlands.

After the coronation ceremony, HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the World Judo Championships - Doha 2023, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, thanked and praised the efforts of the work team and volunteers, who were keen on taking memorial photos with His Excellency, for their contribution to the success of the championship.

His Excellency stressed that the exceptional success of the Judo World Championships - Doha 2023 does not only represent an excellence certificate for the Qatari organization of mega championships and events, the world-class quality of the Qatari sporting infrastructure, and Qatar's wide organizational experience; but also reflects Qatar's continuous commitment to strengthening the Olympic movement.

His Excellency added that Qatar always believes in the importance of sport, its role in uniting people, spreading peace, and boosting development. Through the continuous organization of such events, Qatar aspires to highlight its world-class sporting facilities and its hospitality in serving the sporting community.

In conclusion of his speech, His Excellency said that Qatar looks forward to turning the success of this edition of the World Judo Championships, which concluded Sunday in Doha - the capital of international sports - into a bedrock that provides more excellence and dazzle for Qatar in organizing various sporting events in the future.
