World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024 Director says Qatar is Ready

Doha: The Qatar Swimming Association President and Director of the World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024, Khalil Al Jaber stressed Qatar’s readiness to host the championships from February 2-18.

During a press interview today, Al Jaber said that this tournament is the most prominent event on the World Aquatics calendar, and will be held in the Middle East for the first time ever.

Al Jaber said that with less than 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, preparations are in full swing, with work underway to prepare the venues and facilities in cooperation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). He said that swimming pool installation in the Aspire Dome and the construction of the Hamad Aquatic Centre have been completed, with all other works expected to be completed before the end of this month.

For the sake of exchanging expertise and benefiting the Doha 2024 edition, the organizing committee work teams attended a number of previous tournaments, the most recent of which was the World Aquatics Championships - Fukuoka 2023.

The Qatar Swimming Association President said that Qatar is accustomed to organizing such major international sporting events, with the country having a qualified human capital capable of best results, as was the case with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the World Judo Championships - Doha 2023., among others, whereby Qatar proved to being a leader in hosting major sporting events.

Moreover, the Director of the World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024 pointed to the significant contribution of volunteers in the success of a sports tournament, noting Qatar's high number of experienced volunteers thanks to their participation in organizing various sporting events in recent years, adding that between 800 and 1,000 volunteers will help organized the Doha 2024 edition.

Khalil Al Jaber said that team Qatar's participation will be limited to swimming, praising the team's honorable achievements in the 6th Arab Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi recently, coming in second place in the overall standings for the men's category, with a total of 15 medals (5 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze), with most swimmers being from the junior category.

He added that the Qatar Swimming Association strives to yield top-notch swimmers by providing them with training programs, external camps, and participation in various global tournaments, wishing team Qatar the best of success in the World Aquatics Masters Championships - Doha 2024, and hoped that they reflect the advancement in Qatari swimming.

The Qatar Swimming Association President stated that Qatar has a distinguished record in hosting sporting events, with the organizing committee working towards holding an exceptional edition characterized by high quality facilities and services available to contestants and guests, in addition to the benefit of the venues' close proximity to one another, something that is characteristic to Qatar.
